Arts et Métiers

A new visual identity for Luxembourg’s oldest technical high school

Lycée des Arts et Métiers approached the project with the intention of updating its visual identity to reflect the evolution of its academic programs. With a logo unchanged since 1970, the existing identity no longer represented the school’s contemporary and forward-looking direction.

The new visual identity balances technical precision with a sense of playfulness. At its core sits a reinterpreted “AM”, derived from Arts et Métiers, and expressed through two contrasting yet complementary characters: one rounded and expressive, the other angular and more restrained. Together, they reflect the school’s dual focus on technical expertise and artistic exploration.

The system was designed to be modular and adaptable, allowing it to work across a wide range of applications while maintaining a clear and recognisable character. Colour is used sparingly as an accent, while institutional materials remain calm and structured, ensuring a balance between expression and clarity.

The result is a cohesive and contemporary identity—confident yet measured—built on carefully balanced contrasts, a concise colour palette and a thoughtful, minimalist approach.

The identity extends naturally into the digital space, where its principles remain clear and consistent. Strong contrasts and a focused colour palette create structure, while typography plays a central role in guiding users through the interface. The result is a clear and consistent digital experience.

The identity was adapted across a wide range of applications, responding to different contexts and uses. The logo itself became a graphic element rather than a fixed mark, allowing it to scale, repeat and shift depending on the support.

Bold contrasts push the identity forward, giving it presence and confidence across formats.
